DUTTON HALL Sir Piers Dutton began building his new house, just below the old house,
in 1539 over-looking the Weaver Valley in Dutton parish, Cheshire County.
It was built in the Tudor style popular at the time. The new hall was built
in a quadrangle form and was surrounded on three sides by a broad, deep
moat. During the 18th and 19th centuries much of the Hall was demolished.
What remained was bought by J. A. Dewar, a whisky magnate, who took it down,
brick by numbered brick and transported it to East Grinstead, Sussex, where
it was rebuilt and attached to John of Gaunt's old house (top, on the right)
for his private residence. Today, this residence houses the Stoke Brunswick
School. Ideal for Printing |
